About Millamolong Station

In the summer of 1930 four adventurous country boys embarked on an ambitious quest to represent Australian polo in England. On a shoestring budget these four horsemen took on the cream of British polo.

The Ashton brothers' outstanding success is one of Australia's great underdog stories, a story about Aussie grit, determination, brilliant horsemanship and victory against all expectations. What happened in England and then America in 1930 led to Jim Ashton purchasing Millamolong Station and to this day the Ashton family continue their tradition of polo, horse breeding, farming and viticulture/wine making at Millamolong. For the past thirty years Millamolong has welcomed guests from around the globe who come and enjoy the station and all that is on offer.

Millamolong was originally settled around 1836. For centuries the land has been part of Australian folklore timeless aboriginal heritage, the gold rush, wool boom and secrets from the beautiful Belubula River all etch Millamolong's past.

In ancient times our river was known for its great healing powers. People would travel many miles to drink from it believing it would heal them. Millamolong literally means 'Sick Mans Creek' and it is now known that it is the rich calcium, magnesium and other diluted minerals which make this river and our creeks across the property unique.

Today our river and a series of natural underground springs feed Millamolong's livestock and vineyard. The property comprises 4050 hectares with 28 hectares of vineyard and the remaining acres feed our cattle, sheep and horses. Our water together with the rolling hills and deep gullies ensure our grapes develop depth of character and the horses learn to be strong and sure footed for the polo field and our trail riders!

Millamolong's main guest house is a self catering 1930's homestead which comes complete with large private garden originally designed by Edna Walling Garden, tennis court and swimming pool. We also offer a large Farmhouse for rental and two self contained country cottages. All our accommodation is self catering. Please see our Accommodation section for further details.

There are many activities for all the family at Millamolong and of course we have our own Millamolong Polo Club which hosts tournaments each year and regularly welcomes international players. Millamolong welcomes guests who want to play or try their hand at polo.

Millamolong is a place for visitors to enjoy the very best of country Australia, experiencing a genuine working property, exploring vineyards, tasting wines, walking, mountain biking and riding on some of the best trails in New South Wales… or of course trying your hand at Mustering or play some chukkas at our own Millamolong Polo Club. For those wanting simply to rest and relax, there is the attraction of a wander through the vineyard, swimming, a tranquil garden, and open fires in winter.
